I didn't see a forum for topics about the old MacOS so I'm posting here and hoping some experienced MacOS user can refresh my memory.
I recall using some kind of help utility, don't know if it was built into the OS or some third party app, that when you searched on how to do a specific task it would highlight areas of the GUI that you needed to select. This would go step by step until your task was done.
So for example if you searched "How to setup networking?" I red circle would draw around the menu you needed to select (you would actually the circle being drawn, it would not just appear). As you clicked the menu, then another circle would be drawn around the menu item you needed to select and so on until you reached the networking control panel then it would tell you what fields you had to edit and so on.
Windows system help kind of does the same thing but it just pops up a window telling you what to do then with a link that opens the control panel. Does anyone remember this? Can you give me more information about this? I would like to recreate something similar (for a program I'm writing) and wanted to lookup documentation on this, but I can only vaguely remember how it worked. So any recollections or information that can point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: A similar function appears in OS X when you search in the system control panel. Spotlight highlights the specific panel you should click.
