I'm a full-time choral conductor/bandleader, but I have steady income from composing and arranging for the theater, choirs, and the occasional tv show or film.
That's so cool! And my ideal future career, too. I'm sort of all over the place though. I play a lot of jazz, but also do rock, classical, and experimental music. I'm in the Bachelor of Musical Arts program at Lawrence University. It's a great program because I can be at a really high level in both music and non-music stuff, so I don't have to make any sacrifices.I'm a full-time choral conductor/bandleader, but I have steady income from composing and arranging for the theater, choirs, and the occasional tv show or film.
That is a shock and sad news. I'd recommend his complete Beethoven symphonies. I have that set on EMI (now Virgin). What makes those recordings unique is his use of period instruments and played in the style of Beethoven's time (historically informed performance). It's well-regarded and quite a contrast compared to how modern interpretations are played.I just read Roger Norrington died. Does anybody here have recommendations for exploring his recorded work?
Agree that Glasspieces ("Rubric" and "Facades") by Philip Glass are superb pieces of music; actually, that entire album - Glasspieces - is an excellent and haunting work.Separated at birth? Or just siblings?

(trivia: for some reason multiple mostly forgettable ballets have been set to the John Adams but the Philip Glass has only one...which is a masterpiece)
