Clean install file vault not finished

Hello,

Is it safe to erase my hard drive and do a clean install of El Capitan from a bootable USB even though fault vault encryption has not finished? I have my data backed up.

I want to do this because its taking way too long (making everything slow) and I don't really need it.

Btw Im using a macbook pro 2011 i7

Yep... that will work fine.

Safe? Yes.

Necessary/appropriate? Maybe not. If everything runs slow, I doubt that FileVault alone is the cause.
