Hi guys,
Just picked up a very nice clean 2012 9,2. Seller had wiped it and I guess reinstalled Mountain Lion from original discs maybe?
Anyway, I'm trying to upgrade the OS and can't believe the ass-ache it's causing me. Since when did installers have an expiration date? On my third installer now, booting from a USB but it wants to take like an hour? Made me think it was downloading the OS so I tried disconnecting the wifi, and sure enough the install quit. Why isn't it just installing from my USB drive? Why does it need a wifi connection?

How did you create the installation USB and select it at boot? If there is something corrupt and no OS is available I believe the Mac will default to Internet recovery.

Which version of macOS are you trying to install?

Did you get the installer from Apple?

Manage to push through - took about 1:45! Longest install I've ever done.
Anyway, High Sierra is up and running. All good.

Great to hear! I think it's about validation so you can be sure that the boot file has not been tampered with, that's why you need Wi-Fi. Have fun with HS :)

When it boots off a USB installer, no network connection is needed or asked for. There must have been something wrong with the installer requiring the Mac to use Internet Recovery instead.

The next order of business is to throw an SSD in, and upgrade the RAM to 16GB.
Here are the items I'm thinking of:

Any thoughts? Will these get the job done?

Anybody know where I can get a version of Pages & Numbers that will work on High Sierra?
Old Tim Cooks really pushing the "designed obsolescence" barrel these days isn't he?
Might need a decent download scanner to be safe. Used to have one can't remember what it's called.
Anybody?

I have this very MBP. Put a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb in it about a year ago (after the 3 year old Intel SSD died) and it has had 16gb ram for some time. It will be like having a new computer. I also replaced the DVD (which had quit working) with a 124gb Micron SSD which I got real cheap on ebay, mounted in a OWC datadoubler. I'm very happy running Mojave.

Very encouraging, thanks. Got any idea what brand your RAM is or where you got it? I'm looking at those A-Tech modules mentioned above.

I have two 2012 Macbook Pro 13, bought one new, the other is a refurb. The refurb has Kingston ram bought used off of ebay. The other either Kingston or Crucial bought new locally. What you have listed should be just fine. They are the correct specs for that 2012 MBP.
