Hello, I would like some tips on the use of time machine..

I ordered a WD Scorpio (or something) Blue 500 Gb hd for my MBP and so I will do a new install on that disk. I do have an external 1TB disk with my stuff and Time Machine backups wich I want to use to get my files back.

All seems fine but I want do combine a clean install + TM so... I DO want to do a clean install of Adobe, Office (need the latest version anyway), iWork, iLife etc. etc. But I want my docs and my mail and my downloads and pictures etc do be synced from TM.

Still with me so far? I dont want my iPhoto files because the update to iLife 11 messed up my library a bit and since I haven't put in alle the geo data etc I thought I would start over with my photos from scratch (have all originals on ext hdd) But my mail and all its folders I want to get from TM.

Can I select what programs should get their files from TM? Or do I need to do some sort of export from mail to later import it again? I have the feeling there is some old crap that shoulnt be in there.. Can that cause any problems or will it only copy the raw data.

My TM backup originates from an eeepc 1000H (yes I know) so it goes back before I actually got a mac...(though it got me to get a mac in the first place)

Any tips?

(basically I have the feeling my TM is not perfectly clean and I dont completely trust it)

Ok thanks I will try that.
I thought the assistent was to copy from mac -> mac directly.
:)
