Hey,

I cracked the lens of the back camera of my iPhone 7 a while ago and had it professionally replaced, after which the camera was working great. However now both the lens and ring it’s attached to came off completely, leaving the camera exposed. I used the phone without the lens on fof a few days (big mistake!) and now the camera seems to have dust on the sensor and a smuggy coating overall, which leaves dust dots and a fuzzy look in bright light.

I’ve got the lens/ring still and I’m gonna glue it back on, however I need to clean the camera first. Any good ideas on how to get the sensor clean and to get that smuggy coating off?

I’ve tried blowing in to it with compressed air and whiping off the cmaera module lens but doesn’t seem to help...

I don’t have a repair shop close by which is why I’m looking for a DIY solution...

The camera lens and sensor are semi-sealed in a module together. From the looks of the dust or debris you have on the lens or sensor, it can't be sealed very well. From the looks it is on some of the lens elements as the debris is out of focus. From my DSLR experience, the debris would be sharper or actually on the sensor.

Never seeing the module, not sure how much access you will have.

You need to use a very slightly damp q-tip and very very gently clean it.

There is a chance you scratched the lens by now and the spots you see are permanent.

Don’t every try to dry-wiping it. It will scratch the surface of the lens.

I’d blow out all the dust I can then proceed with the q-tip.

Also it was a very bad idea to use the phone with the camera being exposed as dust can and probably did get inside the module itself and it is near impossible to blow out. If there is debris inside the module, the focus and OIS are compromised.

Last time I saw this happening, the camera was vibrating by on its own all the time making the picture shaking like crazy.

Also for the glue, use B-7000. It is a strong flexible glue used for display assemblies that won’t break due to shock.
