Hi all,

Just curious what you all use to clean your space gray MBA? I know water is recommended for the screen, but what do you use for the keyboard and trackpad area? I have some Windex Electronic wipes - will those work for the keyboard?

Thanks all!

I have always just used the same cloth and cleaner that I use for the screen, on the keyboard, trackpad and frame.

Great stuff. Always used it for my screens but never for the body. Might have to try that.

buy a bunch of micro fiber cloths and use water or a screen cleaner for electronics. wipe wet and then wipe with a dry. I like to put Clorox or alcohol on the keys since they get oily but dont do that and then close the screen. it may take out the coating on the screen and leave blotches you cant see but cant wipe off. I find that usually just water and clean microfiber cloth work very well.

This is what I do, but I have seen some posts about water quality potentially being an issue. I don't do it very often, so maybe that's why I haven't seen any bad after-effects.

For the rest of the computer, I would use a little bit of soap and water. But nothing with alcohol in it. I remember using alcohol wipes frequently on an old MacBook. After a while there was just a darker spot around where my palms would sit. I guess there must've been a reaction between the oils on my palms and the alcohol. Not exactly sure what the cause was, but it's never happened with any other MacBook.

I'm just sticking with water. I figure I can't go wrong there.

I tried whoosh wipes on my space gray 2017 MBP, they kind of smeared stuff around and then left this white itchy residue on my MBP. Maybe it would better with the Whoosh spray and a microfiber. I'd imagine just using water and a microfiber would be 90% as good as any solution, though. Also, I think whoosh wipes have some citrus based scent in them and that tends to bother my skin, so there's that...

I had an older space gray iPhone 6s that I cleaned with everything under the sun. I tried alcohol wipes, water and paper towel, 3% peroxide and paper towel, chlorox wipes, greenworks wipes, various "hospital grade" cleaning wipes, dish soap and water with paper towel, etc. The thing took it like a champ, but the space gray was slightly lighter after a year or so, probably from the peroxide. After a while, it kind of looked more like the "silver" finish instead of space gray.

After all of that experimentation my conclusion was the best way to clean it was a damp paper towel or tissue and maybe a tiny dot of some sort of soap if things didn't come off with plain water.

I have had Space Grey since forever. 2017 MBP and now a 2020 MBP. What do I use to clean it? Water and a t-shirt if I have to. Like, barely dab the t-shirt in water if I have to use water. Can of air for the keyboard now and then. A just washed and dried t-shirt for the screen (dry) if I have to. Anything more - tiny bit of water on edge of t-shirt for screen.

I wouldn't ever use a chemical cleaning wipe or any of those screen wipes - I've seen them destroy monitors before.

I'm fortunate that I use my MBP as a desktop mostly.

Apple recommends using just water. However, I have good experence with Whoosh. But yes, it can smear too because of oil build-up (fingerprints, etc..) that get on your screen and then to your cloth. Apple uses Whoosh "in-store" to wipe down their display units. Always use a non-abrasive micro-fiber. And change them out or thoroughly wash out w/water and let dry. After a few wipings, the micro fiber cloth gets oil on it too. Do NOT use paper towels or tissue, etc.. those have paper fibers in them and CAN scratch your surfaces - certainly your screen.
