Clearing HDD

Hey everyone, I just installed an SSD and I was wondering how I would go about clearing my old HDD so that I can use it as a external HDD so that I can store my files in it. So i simply format it, which type do I format it to?

Use Disk Utility to initialize it to HFS+, journaling enabled.

Then it will be ready to use.
