iphone X and I just noticed that when I close the control centre I get a weird vibrating/click. Not like any other haptic on the device.

Not noticed it before and it only happens if I swipe up from the very bottom of the screen, if I close control centre by swiping up from slightly further up the screen it does not happen.

Just curious as I’m sure it was not happening before. Anybody else?

Yep I have it too. It almost sounds like a crackle coming from the top speaker because the vibration feels higher than the Taptic vibrations.

Update: it’s definitely coming from the Taptic Engine. Sounds like a dodgy vibration.

have you tried changing the haptic feedback level to see if it changes the noise?

It is very odd and does not feel right to me. I have tried toggling all haptics off and it is still there.

It only happens when closing notification center not when swiping up on anything else and it only happens if I swipe from the very bottom too, if if I swipe up from a cm or 2 higher nothing.

As I say it does not sound/feel right to me.

It also only happens when the phone isn’t in silent. Try flicking the switch and seeing if it still happens. It doesn’t for me.

Everyone with an X try this: Pull down the notification centre and then flick back up using the home bar at the bottom of the screen, and you will hear a taptic 'click. However pull the notification centre down and swipe it back up using an area of the screen higher than the home bar it it does not click. Strange but true.

I thought a forced restart had fixed it but I was in silent mode and when silent mode is off the noise is still there.

I just posted on another thread about this, I just discovered this too! Its inconsistent so sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't its making me think is this device faulty?

I’m almost certain this is just a software error because it’s only happening with control centre.

It doesn’t seem to be happening noe that I’m on the newest 11.2 beta.

When I do this, I get the same haptic feedback as when I swipe up to use multitasking. It only happens when closing control center from the bottom. It doesn’t sound like it’s a problem like the op says though.

^^ This is exactly it (only when NOT in silent mode). It does not feel right but maybe it is normal? Had a support chat with apple yesterday and they did not say it was normal. I'd agree though if it is an issue then it is almost certainly software not hardware

Thanks for confirming, yeah I hope its a software issue its not bothering me enough to go swap it atm

I cannot think of a reason for it but maybe it is just lazy coding? The 11.2 update could fix it, let's hope.

Yeah posted this elsewhere but like:

Go into Sounds, pick a sound, tap on vibration patterns, and just tap between vibration patterns. You will for sure hear the “click” noise coming from the Taptic Engine, easily reproducible. Time for a Genius Bar appointment...
