If I had a genuine use case for this and the point is just to remove distractions, I'd just finally bother to get around to setting up my iPhone focus settings properly instead! 😜

Yep — a standalone phone, perhaps with an e-ink screen, will carve a niche for this device. Maybe a slightly bigger screen and a retractable "tuck-under" keyboard.
If this was the form factor of the Pre3, I would have ordered one. I’m kinda on the fence for this device.

I see this (albeit with scant actual experience) as a cool tool for a geezer relative. Les formidable than a full on iPhone, with a key board, plug in earphone capable…if it works (cellular) without a location requirement beyond the carrier, it is a good thing. I could be way off on this but on the surface I see a good case for this. Disclaimer. I am a certified geezer from last century. I see comments here about configuring an iPhone for simplicity, et al. Mainly requiring advanced adeptness with iOS. That’s my point – this is a piggy back platform like Don Quixote’s Sancho.

all of that makes some sense minus the price tag. a geezer who isnt in the iphone demographic, also probably doesnt want to drop $500.

Well I say anyone in the iPhone ecosystem (and with family/relationships) could leverage this device even with some budget pain. It’s a market waiting for this. The panache of the iPhone around the pool at gated community in Florida is irresistible. “Oh Lynda, I had my nerdy nephew Jared pick me up this.”
“How about a selfie before cocktails?”

this wont disrupt 'look, i got the new iPhone!'

I wouldn’t get too excited about this just yet, as they have only shown a dummy unit rather than a functional prototype. Given the scrutiny of modern reviewers and the general public, the device is bound to face significant questioning. Furthermore, as a small startup, there are valid concerns regarding their ability to provide long-term support.

I'd love to see Apple come up with a multi-profile iPhone. Separate apps, separate settings, separate data, separate notifications. So I could have a "work" phone and a "personal" phone in one device.

Apple couldn't come up with a true multi-profile Apple TV, complete with separate secure logins. Worse, macOS' multi-user capabilities have been largely unmaintained. Don't have high hopes for a multi-profile iPhone.

So let me summarize a bit: you go buy a premium to get the iphone which was designed with NO keyboard in the first place, just so as to attach yet another useless peripheral that will end up joining the Great Pacific Trash Vortex https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch
Remember, Apple has the means to recycle its products. These guys just can't
calm down its a bluetooth keyboard

'premium designed with NO keyboard'

uh cool but this aint a great experience

Their Q&A says it can be your main phone.

Which it probably will be for me once my iPhone mini stops receiving OS updates. I so miss my BlackBerry Q10. If that phone can replicate some of the experience, I want it.
