I am looking for a clipboard app that lets me save and name favorites. That would let me easily find the text I want paste into documents, etc.

For example,

I'd like to have a list like this:
Name Text
MBTI I will be doing your debrief. Please...
MBTI Invite Here are the instructions...

All the apps I've seen and use (Clypen, Collective) are good clipboard apps but show the text, with no way to name each clip.

I had no idea Alfred did something like this. This is pretty hand and cool!!!! What would be nice is if you could save it, and then have Alfred save it to a cloud service so I don't have to setup the same snippet on each computer.

And it looks like you need to buy the powerpack.... this just might be the reason I buy it!

Yes... you do need the Powerpack for this.

You can sync your Alfred settings to Dropbox to be shared among your Macs and that would sync all your snippets like you want.

Yup. I installed Alfred but it has some very frustrating features:
  • You have to toggle it from the menubar, unlike Spotlight which automatically brings up the search bar
  • The clipboard feature has to be activated via a keyboard shortcut, there is no mouse option from the menubar

Are you talking about toggling the clip bar or toggling on alfred for your first question?

When I click on the Alfred hat on the menu bar the dropdown Alfred menu appears and I have to click on Toggle Alfred to bring up search bar. As a result any search takes three clicks: click on menubar Toggle Alfred Type in search string and click to search

Go to this screen and set a KB combo to bring up Alfred search. I believe by default it is option-space. I changed mine to command-space to replace Spotlight.

From the Alfred search screen you can start typing s n i p and it will bring up the Snippets. Or go to this screen and set a KB shortcut in Viewer Hotkey to go straight to it without bringing up Alfred search. I have opt-cmd-c set the pop up Snippets here.

I have Alfred set not to even show the menu bar or in the Dock. The whole idea is to use Alfred without ever taking your hands off the KB to work faster.

How do you set it to not show in the menu bar? One thing I learned recently is the ability to control functions of OSX with commands from within Alfred. The more and more I use this product, the more and more I really like it!

Edit: Found it.........! It is under Preferences>>Appearance>>Options for those who also want to do this.

Thanks, but therein lies my rub with Alfred. I don't want to use the keyboard as I prefer the mouse. Unfortunately, Alfred isn't really setup for ease of use with a mouse. Guess I can setup an Applescript to do what I want but It'd be nice if Alfred offered it as an option.

I don't think you will be very happy with Alfred honestly then. It is pretty much designed from the ground up for KB control.

You might try forcing yourself to use the KB commands for a week and see if you start to like it?

I should have mentioned earlier, this site is a great repository of Alfred workflows and themes.

Glad you like Alfred. :)

I'll give it a try. I like what it can do and the IOS app is helpful so I really hope I can make it work for me. It's a very good app but I am not sure if I can retrain myself after many years of Mac and Apple ][ use...

I have setup Alfred to launch with a double tap of the propeller key and snippets with a double tap of the option key. That actually isn't bad since I do not have to remember keyboard shortcuts and isn't used by other apps.

It would be nice if you could add things, such as Toggle Snippets, to the Alfred Menubar dropdown.

Ok, it's been a few days and I'm hooked. I especially like the search function for snippets as I am building a rather large library for work related items that I use repeatedly, such as email responses of

"No. I do not care how much you want to do with it I will not approve purchase of a Windows PC."

Thanks for your help.
