That's the NORM for PC / PC hardware.

I've never had to pay return shipping on something that arrived DOA. Graphics card, laptop, monitor with stuck pixels, etc. Not once. And any outfit that tried to make me pay for their inability to live up to our sales contract (i.e.: I give them money, they give me a working widget) would not see any return business from me, that's for sure.

Search for Cost.

Same for RMA for every pc component I ever bought on line.

As newegg points out in that page you linked to, they aren't the ones responsible for the broken component/system - they didn't build it.

This is a different situation - the very people who built the system sent sent a busted system.

And while I'm sure there are exceptions, when I've dealt with DOA hardware from the manufacturer (sling, HP, echostar, etc.), the manufacturer has always covered the cost of the return (and, in fact, has always cross-shipped as well).

Why openstar over psystar?

because it was $600 cheaper for comparable systems. I was going to buy a psystar because they had a great deal going on with what I wanted, but it ended before I could make a decision, and the non sale price didn't do anything for my crank.

I bought from this same guy on ebay to and strongly advise against it to any who might be considering it.

Very unstable and much of the OSX functionality doesnt work.

Construction was VERY sloppy. Some cables plugged in upside down or not plugged in at all which shows there was NO testing or break in time as he advertises.

Advertises a 3.2 gHZ cpu what you're actually getting is an overclocked 2.8.

Unstable and very buggy. NOT worth the $$$ no matter how cheap it is. (Ive got a brick I can sell for a LOT less than a real apple, but its still a brick!)

Big shock :)

Yeah, while I haven't purchased a computer from this guy, I have had dealings with him. His customer service sucks, and his personality is worse. I would stay far away.

Awesome! ;)

Just out of idle curiosity.. how'd you get into chip design? :)

Just what I knew I wanted to do. Got my B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical engineering, flew out to california, and started designing bipolar PowerPC chips. That company died, so I went to Sun for a few months before switching over to AMD for the next decade.

terrible trouble and need help

I bought form him and had 6 weeks of hell.... It made a nasty start-up noise from the day I got it, and we talked about it on the phone. He said it was a wire...NOT. The optical drive would lock up the computer, the SATA connections on the board would fugitively go bad...and later work again, and you wouldn't believe the number of other glitches it had. Anyway, he told me to read up on Intel and if I had anymore questions to get back with him by email.

WEll, one of his email addresses is now defunct, the other one is now connected to SpamArrest, and basically he has not answered any emails.

Well, the machine is now D_E_A_D. Power supply seems okay, and the ON/OFF switch seems okay, so I can only surmise it is the motherboard or CPU gone bad.

I had his phone number, but it was one the computer when it went down, and I have no way of retrieving that data right now.

I could order another motherboard like this one form NewEgg, (if indeed that is the problem), but then how do I go about setting up the computer? Or is it the CPU?

His new listings show that he will teach buyers how to install their respective OS's, but what do I do at this point???

Does ANYBODY HAVE HIS PHONE NUMBER?????:confused:

I need help!:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Thanks,
Inga

(continued)

The DVD drive was freezing up the machine so much that I went ahead and disconnected the ribbon from the motherboard. It was after that, that the machine never started up again.:(

This might sound silly, but is there anybody who is willing to take a picture of the lower right hand side of their Clone's motherboard so I can see how the electrical leads are set-up? I really doubt it is the problem, but maybe I have a connection that is unplugged or something, and hope springs eternal.

Thanks,
Inga

PS - By the way, he put a 2.5 processor in mine and overclocked it to 3.3. Isn't that, like a lot?

I don't see any listings on ebay at the moment, but can't you work with ebay or paypal to get his contact information or put in a dispute? I hope you gave him terrible ebay feedback.

Where as I paid twice as much, and have all positive points apart from the annoying input lag.

Which has been (quickly) addressed by Apple ADC and the store.

So later this week i'll have two MPs in my possession (sadly have to send one back).

Proved nothing by posting it tbh. I'd rather pay more and get the service and reliability. Mine turns off and on, encodes, folds and runs perfectly. Yours, er, doesn't :)

Hey - it does turn off. So 50% of the functionality at 50% of the price sounds fair.

You can open a dispute with PayPal up to 45 days after sale.

After that, they don't get involved.
Just have to be careful when buying things like electronics on eBay.

Though would never by an hackitosh, esp not off of ebay.

Hey Inga, His spam arrest email bounced back on me also. It appears as if he's scamming a lot of people and then just drops whatever email he's using as soon as the complaints pile up.

Ive got his # and what appears to be a working email because its tied to his paypal account. Ill send it to you in a private message.

I was having a lot of issues with my drives not working also and he had it set up so they were slaves to the master. I was able to fix it by setting them all up as masters ( I think thats what fixed some of my issues as I did a LOT of tinkering to get things resolved and that was one them ) I also played around with the bios settings but took care to record the originals and then reverted to see what worked.

My cpu was a 2.8 that he overclocked to 3.2 and he didnt include ANY of the original equipment info, boxes, drivers, warranty info, etc so its very hard to track down what you need and if its covered at all. I think in large part because he buys much of the hardware USED on ebay, just take a look at his FB and you'll see pieces here and there. It explains how buggy and unpredictable the bricks he's selling are.

Anyway, I think its understood the guys a shyster. Its surprising though that only one has left negative FB . I did see another neg but it disappeared a few days later...must have worked out a deal to take back his garbage in exchange for removing it.
