Cloning an Intel Mac

I'm wondering what the best way is to make a complete copy (preferably bootable) of the hard drive of my MacBook Pro. It was easy with my Powerbook, but SuperDuper! doesn't even run on my MBP, and Carbon Copy Cloner runs but doesn't seem to work right. I have a firewire/usb 2.0 external drive. Any suggestions?
