Hello,
I currently have a Macbook retina (2015) running Catalina 10.15.3.
I also have access to a M1 Imac running Monterary 12.5.

I am Planning on cloning my Macbook to a 2TB SSD so i can then run the SSD through the Imac too. My question is will the difference in OS/chips be a problem at all?
Also would there be an option to update the OS once i have the cloned SSD attached to the Imac?

Many Thanks,
Will.

You will be able to access the files on the SSD but you will not be able to boot the iMac from it. M1 Macs cannot boot Catalina.

Ahh thank you.
I really need to buy a new M1 Macbook, but cant right now. In the mean time i think i will have to use my macbook with the Imac as the extra (main) screen.

Many thanks.
