Close multiple apps?

Am I missing something for the X. I know you swipe up and hold to see all
Apps open but when I swipe one up it doesn’t close it. How do I close them?

When you do that hold down for a sec then you will be able to swipe them away

Where you would normally swipe up, hold your finger (long press). It brings up the - in the top. You can click the - or just swype
