Being a Windows user, I'm used to merely clicking X, and the application closes.

With Mac, one has to either:

    - Press the red x. And this means the application is still running, no?

    - Menu Quit. This truly closes the particular application, no?

Are the above the best methods to closing out of applications on a Mac?

Thanks in advance, still learning here.

Correct with the Mac the application is normally still running.
Correct the Menu Quit will truly quit the application. I prefer the keyboard method of "command + q" to quit the app so I do not have to mouse to the menu and mouse down to select Quit on the drop down menu.

Yeah pretty much, but as mentioned command q will quit an app and right clicking the dock icon will usually give you the option to quit it as well.
