Closing apps

I know how to see which apps I have open. But how do I close them?? The old way was to swipe up or down. I do that now and it doesn’t seem to close them.

Ya just hold down any of them and Red x’s will apear. You can swipe them up at that point

I didn’t know we had to hold them down to swipe up. Kinda sucks
