Closing long emails

If you click on a mailnotification so the mail opens, is there any other way to close it than to scroll through the entire mail to the end where the close and thow options are?

You can dismiss it by swiping down at the top of the message.

As far as I know there is no way to delete/archive without going right to the bottom, unfortunately.

Agreed. Force touch that would erase that message and go to the next.
