Closing the laptop screen

Is there anyway that you can close the laptop without putting the computer to sleep?

Plugging in the monitor adapter that your mac came with might work. I wouldn't reccomend it though, the heat from the computer can damage the screen. It goes to sleep when you close it for a reason.
