Currently running Tiger, but plan a clean install of Leopard.

Fortunately French is no problem, but I usually change the system language to English.
On the other hand, not much I can do about the keyboard, I'm stuck with AZERTY which I've never really mastered. Even being a long-term piano player with all the hand/brain co-ordination that that demands, I've never really adapted to switching between AZERTY and QWERTY keyboards from one day to another.
I've just realized too that the Leopard DVD I have is dual-layer, and that this model (unlike the PB5.9) is not so equipped. Believe I have a Leopard CD set someone I can dig out.

You are so right about using it compared to the 15". This 17" screen is superbly enooooormous!
All 17s can READ dual layer discs. Just that the 1.67 DLSD is the only one that can WRITE dual layer discs.
Congrats, that beauty belongs in a museum. Immaculate is an understatement. Very jealous!

BTW: I've switched the keyboard/touchpad-assembly but still the touchpad isn't working ...
Turned out that a tiny little thingy on the logic-board close to the touchpad-connector was complete smoked up and broke off the board when I gently touched it with a spudger's tip.
So no touchpad with this 17"PB - but hurray to the BT Magic Mouse, that came with my 17" MacBookPro!

No one stopped my 180 buck offer at the 17" 2.5GHz intel c2d MacBookPro auction...
Included was a 1st gen BT Magic-Mouse and a Remote.
It's a great machine!
The no-glare screen is stunning bright even on sunny days - seems to me brighter than my non-retina MBPs. The most pleasant screen to look at compared to all my "books" ...
Sound is outstanding, especially when combined with BassJump2.
It's my favorite device for watching videos and listening to music now.
It's running El Capitan and could be maxed out to 6GB RAM (which turns out to be a little bit pricy so I'm gonna stay with 4GB)
Since most people look for the MacBooks with black keyboards these models can be a real bargain ...

Congrats! 4GB mobile DDR2 chips are crazy expensive. Just wondering, can you update the CPU on those? A T9900 or a T9800 would make for a great and inexpensive upgrade if you like tinkering
(Have a T9800 laptop myself and performance is quite good)
Tinkering ... So far mine is limited to swapping drives or RAM-bricks and removing dirt. When I replaced thermal-paste on my 12" Powerbook I happend to break off one of the two most important screws that fix the heatsink against the processor. im happy to report That I have acquired a nice 17 inch DLSD, so now i can Join club 17 (its my first 17 inch Mac laptop of any kind) Apple does a good job at making the 17 inch seem smaller then it is, only time the fact its 17 inch slaps you across the face is when going to pick it up, it is noticeably heavier then my 15 inch DLSD, and of course the screen is real nice
now for a picture of course here it is compared to my 15 inch DLSD, I Just need a 2005 12 inch PowerBook G4 and ill have the set (here is a geekbench score https://browser.geekbench.com/geekbench2/2636860 it got 1 point more then my 15 inch DLSD )

I've decided to join the club, its an early 2005 1.67GHz G4 with 1GB DDR and the Stock 100GB HDD, the screen has gone bad but I have a 17" Macbook Pro replacement here to fit. It has the original box, charger and install DVD/instructions. The battery seems to be working (genuine apple one) and only has 64 cycles according to System Profiler. No bends in the lower case either although there are a few scuffs, I may eventually replace the top lid. The hinge still springs up too so seems in pretty decent condition.

At least the 17” physically supports multiple beverages. I can even see room to spare!

from what I have researched, the 1Ghz 17 inch albooks can actually run Mac OS 9.2.2 very well with stuff like the GPU being fully supported with full acceleration in Mac OS 9.2.2
I noticed in your Leopard About this Mac shot that L3 cache is missing, I recommend checking the "diagnostics" tab in system profiler to see if theres any issues with your L3 cache.

My first had that and both of my subsequent LB replacements. My current, which was perfect when bought, does not have a failed cache - which I am thankful for.
Good catch, it displays external cache failed. Oh well, what can you expect for the low low price of 0$.
