Hi Guys and gals, been a while. Sold my old 2008 MP a long time ago, and have been away from MP's for quite a while. But i just recently purchased a classic MP 1.1 with basic specs, and its running 10.6.8.

I have a GTX 285 and a 8800GT over from my old 2008 MP, and thought id put the 8800GT in my cMP (yes i have the power lead connected) in preperation for running Yosemite.

Anyways, get zero picture, cMP chimes and starts to boot up, but i thought 10.6.8 had drivers for the 8800gt card (yes, its an actual mac card out of the 2008 MP)

the cards fan run at max, with the card only being detected as a PCI video card.. nothing else, not detected under displays or anywhere else.

removed card, re installed basic 7300GT, all works fine..

any idea whats going on?

Cheers

V.

edit: btw, downloaded the modified Yosemite instaler, whats the best way to burn that to a USB stick?

Flash the 8800 with EFI32 ROM and it will work. If it worked with 2008 it has to be EFI64 version.

Thx Sheep, nice to see you again my friend.

End goal is I'd like to run a current 64 bit os and have my gtx 285 work in it.. (failing that, I have a few hd4870 or gtx 480/580 PC cards around I could flash, so not too worried the 8800gt card doesn't work.

What would you recommend running for Yosemite on cMP?

And how best to burn the modified Yosemite image to a USB stick?

Web drivers should auto-initialize almost every Nvidia card starting from 8800GT. If you'd install 10.7+ and web drivers unflashed Nvidia cards should work OK. Of those you listed only 4870 could be flashed for bootscreens, if it's one of flashable models ofc.

Intrestingly, i created a small partition to restore the modified Yosemite image to, and it refused to saying it needed to be scanned first? weird.. anyways after scanning, restore worked perfectly and now have a small install partition on a small 110gb dive ill se for rescue missions. Very cool stuff you guys have done here with these older cMP's 1.1/2's

gotta wait for my extra apple gpu cable to install my gtx 285...
