Good day.

I recently decided to update from El Capitan to High Sierra. Which went fine using the original 5770 card. I rebooted a couple of times with the 5770 installed without any issues.
However, after switching back to my ASUS RX480 STRIX OC it wants to install High Sierra everytime I boot, it’s telling me the install file is missing or damaged and ofcourse it is missing, it was already installed.

I had to catch the train so haven’t switched back to the 5770 and tried to boot.

Does anyone have had the same problem or knows how to fix it?

Cheers

Driver support for RX 480s is only in Sierra (preferably 10.12.6, earlier versions of Sierra need kext mods) and High Sierra. The card simply won't work with El Capitan.

I know, thats why I updated to High Sierra, so to be free from the kext hack and the csrutil disabling.

Odd...never had that with my setup (RX 580 8GB). Damaged install somehow?

My first thought too, gonna check later switching the graphics cards again, otherwise I’ll have to make a bootable usb and install it from scratch.

I already had HS installed when I bought my RX 580, and it just worked when fitted. You might be able to access the recovery partition (assuming that's not damaged too), Command + R shortcut on startup will work with RX cards even though you can't see the boot manager.

Is there any way to get bootscreen with these new AMD cards?

Im looking to swap out my titan X to get freesync, but not sure what kind of card i should get and what to expect.

i know the Titan X can be flashed for bootscren, but what about AMDs newer cards?

No recent AMD cards can be flashed with Mac EFI. It would take someone to release a new 'Mac Edition' card or for someone to write their own firmware, unfortunately.

Try reinstalling High Sierra with the 5770 and then swap again
