and its making my pics blurry.

I was able to, with some elbo grease, rub off the rest of it, and now the pics are normal i think. But Im wondering if the coating is necessary or not?

I assume its an anti-glare type stuff.

Any thoughts?

Should I return it?

thanks

if you think it's the coating and not something you got on it... ie you set your phone in something or it was splashed with something I would take it back and to a apple store ask them to look at it. If it's really the coating I'm sure Apple would like to see it and bottom line is I'd like to know if there is a issue I need to watch out for on my phone ;)

A lack or defect in a lens coating wouldn't make your picture blurry. They mostly help with glare reduction and light transmission. Since your image has improved as you have removed the "coating", I would think it was foreign material.

A lens coating is extremely thin. Even if there were areas missing in the coating, you'd never be able to feel the edges with a cleaning tool.
