I'm intrigued by these two, and wonder if its a way to detect and defeat trackers planted on you by 3rd parties:

  • This item has been moving with you for a while.
I'm guessing this is just Apple's way of kindly telling you the item you're frantically looking for has actually been in your pocket all along. q.v. "Your glasses? They're on your head".

I'm sure there would be a licensing cost to join the program, similar to lightning cables. Neat way to drive up competitor costs, and drive a bit of extra revenue.

Y’all are arguing about Tile and Spotify, I’m just worried about this sentence. What is this “limit” that is being put on my account? I hope it’s absurdly high like 50 or something and not 5 trackers. That could potentially be problematic but obviously it’s not out yet so I’m optimistic
That was my first thought too. I wanna know this “arbitrary” limit.

I expect this is more like “hey would you like to add this item your inventory? We see you carry it with you often.” If it’s not registered to someone else that is. ??‍♂️

You a incorrect.

Proof of AirTags being a physical product is all through iOS 13 and 14 resource files.
There was even an OFFICAL video on Apples YouTube that showed Airtags in the menu.
Sorry that is NOT proof. That's reference. Ever notice not one single real product leak has emerged in over 2yrs of all these rumours ... just renderings and such?

Oh and for that 'official' video of Apple's youtube about airtags in iOS menu ... again that's SOFTWARE, from a beta that NEVER released no developer ever actually saw it deployed. THAT should tell you something. It's STILL NOT a 'PRODUCT' ... if anything U1 chip is the product and 'airtag' is a service brand that is probably dying (kept up only by fans and so called leakers) ... FindMy is the service.

Everytime I've posted the above everyone replies to software/code to be hardware (it's not hardware by any evidence anyone has shown YET)! They, like you point to this mythical OS leak from Apple supposedly with no real evidence Apple themselves truly leaked it. How many videos of iPadOS did we ALL see on this site just 6-12 months before it showing up on real iPad's and iOS?

iPadOS was shown by a few UI designers about 6mths before it really debuted and refined (Files, multi-tasking of apps, split screen). iOS was shown to minimized call notifications about 14mths before we finally got it and it looks identical to what we have now.AirTag's ... still a pipe dream that is to debut on the next event (all the time and for so long now) still nothing. it's been, what, 2yrs+ now?

Also where is the video on their channel? I think it was leaked by someone else and not Apple. I just searched - nothing. Do you have the historical record of it being on their channel? Does anyone?

The video was pulled from their channel. But sure, let’s go with that being a fake video for argument sake.

But as for you warped understanding of what a leak is....
While there has been no hardware leak of the AirTags (ignoring Jon Prosser’s) there has been code which references that battery type, and the physical setup experience of AirTags. So while you can argue that this doesn’t mean it will ever become an offical product. It IS PROOF that they have been physically building/testing a product.
You don’t write code and create resources for a non existent product physical product.

I think your definition of what a leak means is that you want actual photos of a finished (non prototype) product. Yeah mate not gonna happen.

We have had a bunch of future/product leaks from iOS code in the past that have turned out to be true.

my definition of a lea: rumor is first stage. Blurry cam images of an actual product 2nd stage. Third stage is much more clearer images and from more than one source.

examples: iPhone 4:12 every model followed this. AirPods Pro same process.

Macs have been shown in referenced code by product model designation.

AirTags have been referenced in code as a service finding them NOT as a product. That’s the difference. Even in this article it’s referenced in code from 3rd party products utilizing FindMy service. There has been no product model designation mentioned. Very very odd so you not think?

not for arguments sake, Apple only shows actual products on their YouTube channel - so either fake, an employee uploaded it in error (or in defiance) I’ve. Or seen an article stating it was uploaded by Apples official channel.

my definitions of a leak have shown products or services actually occurred in that definition. Why no product model designated but a battery? I find that reaching at best. My definition is what’s actually been occurring for over a decade. Nothing new.

but hey let’s agree to disagree.

We shall see! Remind yourself to come here by March next year and give me **** if we don't see these :)

Remind me if we DO see these next month or by March if we DO see these by giving me **** :)

Thanks for being cool about this. I enjoyed our debate.
Haha na all good. So question for you. If we do see these, are you interested in getting one?

I think the patents and they recently filed for something very similar are fascinating. Would be used for VR and even posture tracking.

not sure I’d personally would be interested or finding a use case. I’m more cautious how a person, if psycho or sneaky, would use this to track another. How would Apple avoid potential privacy backlash or lawsuits.

posture tracking for AR/VR hmmm.
