I don't see the value in such a product.

As I’ve seen this comment so much, for some I guess there isn’t a value. However, for me, I travel multiple times per month. Just this last weekend I was away from Friday to Sunday. I had to unplug my iPhone wireless charger, my Apple Watch charger and my AirPods charger. I utilize them to the point where I need to charge them at least every other day. Then in the hotel I have to spread the chargers out for different outlets and I understand that it’s not the end of the world but having one charger now for all three products will just save that extra hassle every time I have to travel.

So I hope Apple continues to see the value in this product, a product I’ve been anticipating since 2017.

MFW Apple gets their a** kicked by a charging pad. I've had a really good charging pad for about four years that does everything. Maybe this will be ground breaking and put out some crazy 10-12 watts per device, but I doubt it. Not to mention it will cost $99.

Right when I decide to buy a Mini, they didn't refresh it. What are the chances the Mini will get the 9th generation Intel processors? I know there isn't much in terms of differences between 8/9 gen, but still. I like that the 9th gen dumped hyper-threading, since I have no plans to run virtualization. Other than that, it's more about having one higher generation to avoid an EOL support date down the road.

Once you have a charging pad, you'll never go back to cables. Like you said, you grab your pad and go... no cables. And it's flat so it goes into a backpack nicely.

the idea of a multi-device charging pad isn't new, there are already a bunch in the market. The only thing that would make this unique is if Apple makes it so that wireless charging for the new Airpods can only be done with Airpower. Otherwise the boat has been long missed for this.

Apple definitely knows the value :)

They’re really excited about AirPower, which is probably why they announced it so early. They thought they were being conservative by giving themselves all of 2018 to deliver, but that didn’t quite work out

I think this will be a pretty big seller for Apple, I’m hoping for $149 but $179-199 wouldn’t surprise me.

That's totally fair. I more so am thinking about the cost vs the value it brings. Similar products already exist on Amazon so it really depends where Apple comes in. I'd say $99 is the top end, and even that may be stretching it.

This is EXACTLY my same use case. I have to put my watch charger across the room or have a spiderweb of junk on a desk in a hotel room because of the way USB ports may or may not be built into the facility. Sometimes, I have to plug in my laptop and then run the charging cables from there for watch and phone, and then a separate charger for another item like a Kindle. It's maddening. I literally have a special pouch of chargers for every item due to business travel.

Intel is so capacity-constrained right now I don’t think you’ll see 9th gen in 65W processors for quite awhile. Couple that with the likelihood (near zero?) that the mini is on a yearly refresh cycle; even iMac is on a two-year update cycle and that lineup probably outsells the mini’s by 3-5x.

Also, at the last mini event, Apple mentioned focusing on “meaningful updates” going forward, and like you say ninth is incremental, yet another 14nm++ generation while they try to get 10 working. I think you’re safe, realistically we’re probably looking at 2H2020 or even 1H2021 for a mini update.

On a side note, was at local Apple store during lunch today. They were "out of stock" on AirPods. When I asked when they might be back in stock the sales associate said "probably not anytime soon" In the last 6 months or so, they have always had them in stock, even during Xmas.

I am guessing Airpods 2 and AirPower come out this week.

so if airpower doesn't have an option for vertical charging(of the iphone) i can see there being some issues. hopefully they aren't planning on releasing the same model they talked about way back when...

Sorry, not the same thing at all. The one annoying thing about Qi charging right now is that you have to place the device pretty precisely on a particular spot on the mat. The poducts you linked to are exactly like that, only multiplied. The promise of the Airpower, besides charging multiple devices at the same time, is that you can place your device(s) anywhere on it, not only some small spot/area.

I’ve seen some reports saying $100, some saying $200. I’d guess right in the middle at $150.
I don't think pricing at $150 will cover all the engineering brainpower that had to go into getting it shipped. They charge $79 for the pillow watch charger and the only thing special about it is that it tilts up so the watch can be in digital clock mode.

My guess is well north of $199.
