Hi,

Since updating to iOS 12.1.1 it already happened two times that I tried to unlock my phone via Face ID and iOS told me to enter my code to enable Face ID. I know that after a reboot this has to be done once but in my two cases it was way after I already entered the code after the reboot. At first I thought that my iPhone just crashed and rebooted but that wasn’t the case because I didn’t have to enter my SIM Pin after entering the code.
Does anyone else also experience this issue?

Thanks and many greets
Chris

What is "way after"? Because Face ID is "off" when

  • The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last six and a half days and Face ID hasn't unlocked the device in the last 4 hours.

I see similar with Touch ID where I get prompted for passcode every Sunday morning.

ADD: from the iOS Security White Paper:

A passcode is also required if your device is in the following states:
•The device has just been turned on or restarted.
• The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours.
• The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last
156 hours (six and a half days) and a biometric hasn’t unlocked the
device in the last 4 hours.
• The device has received a remote lock command. •After five unsuccessful biometric match attempts.
•After initiating power off/Emergency SOS.

I power off my iPhone every night and boot it back up the next morning. So in my case I meant just a few hours with „way after“ (probably wasn’t the best wording for what I meant xD )

I experience this problem too. It's kinda random. Out of nowhere my iPhone asks me for the code to enable FaceID.
And yes, I use my phone everyday at anytime, and no, it's not after a reboot, so the problem is not related to those security mesures Apple has taken.

Just one exemple: I was at work today and before I left I took a photo (from the lockscreen) of my schedule for the next week. While I was downing the stairs, I picked up my phone to check some messages and I had to put the code to unlock it... Why? Dunno...

EDIT: However, I already had this issue back with iOS 11.something...

Yeah, same here...I’d take my iPhone X out of my pocket to check something and it’d ask for the passcode sometimes. Totally random and, no, I didn’t restart my phone
