I really do appreciate the life lessons, but as I have said before, I am content with my current situation. Some of you have suggested dropping cello tutoring, but to be honest the $150 that I get a week out of it is very much worth it; teaching three munchkins, who think they're going to be the next Yo-Yo Ma or Jackie DuPre, their scales and the prelude to the first Bach cello suite isn't as hard as some would think. The academic tutoring isn't hard it's just tedious, but I get paid well for that too ($50 per week for each person I tutor). So my academic and music tutoring gets me $250 a week in cash, and it's a more stimulating way to earn money than flipping burgers. My weekends are fairly free and there are several parents who want me to be their child's cello tutor, and to be honest I feel like taking on two or three more students, and upping my weekly income to $400.

What takes up a lot of my time is working on the cello for myself, that's a minimum of 3-4 hours per night of practice, along with 45 minutes in the morning. It's not something that I would even consider giving up, it's part of who I am as a person. Put it this way, my boyfriend who is the starting quarterback at my school has been playing football since he was four; and five days a week he's at practice from 3 PM till 6:30 PM. Playing the cello is my version of playing football.

Finally, my academic schedule is also non-negotiable, I need it to get into a good school.

Will I ever relax a little bit, maybe. But I feel as if the life I am leading is rewarding; and even if I do get frustrated by my parents pushing me all the time, I know I am going to be a better and more successful person as a result of their pushing.

So while I do greatly appreciate your suggestions to lighten my load and chill out, I must politely decline them. I would however greatly appreciate more coffee suggestions.

Thank you,

-Don

If you really appreciate coffee you owe it to yourself to try some beans that aren't burnt to a crisp, which is what Starbuck's, Peet's, and most others do. The reason they do it is to minimize the difference of the quality of the actual bean on the taste of their coffee, but if you buy good beans you WANT to taste the beans.

I humbly suggest doing some reading over at CoffeeGeek.com.

So I've recently become hooked on coffee (taking 5 AP classes and 2 classes at my local community college makes massive amounts of coffee a requirement).

Anyways, I've been looking for suggestions on different brands and blends. I'm currently drinking Starbucks Columbian blend (pre-ground). It's a medium roast, and I like it, but it is a little bit weak for my tastes. I'm the kind of person who likes my coffee so strong that it makes most people spit their lungs out (I get that from my dad, lol).

Anyways, what do you guys drink? Also, is it worth it to grind my own beans?

Thanks,

-Don
Good luck on those AP classes! You're gonna need lots of cuppa joes. And yeah, grinding your own beans is definitely worth it :)

No. Not really.

(And, besides, one or two of those threads are pretty old: I'm an aficionado of the espresso and other coffee related threads, and I had never even seen this particular thread called 'coffee' until today…)

Just a number of coffee enthusiasts who post on a number of different threads about various complicated aspects, or elements of the whole art, or science, of making a good cup of coffee….

Grind your beans. Jamaican blue mountain and Ethiopian beans are great.

Ah, yes.

Jamaican Blue Mountain are legendary, while Ethiopian beans are simply superb.

Sounds like those classes were taken care of about 5 years ago at this point.

Well, some (supposedly zombie) threads have a strange habit of returning to life in the oddest of circumstances……..sometimes, they are even prodded back to life most unexpectedly.
