Not sure what's come over me lately, but I've had this massive urge to start collecting 1st thru 4th gen iPads. As of now, I have the following:

- iPad, 1st gen (32GB WiFi + 3G)
- iPad 2, white (16 GB WiFi)
- iPad 2, black (64 GB WiFi + 3G)
- iPad 2, black (32GB WiFi) -- just ordered today

Am I the only one into this sort of thing?? If you have one, please post your collection!

[doublepost=1486624775][/doublepost]Nope not me. I have an iPad Air 2 and an old iPad 2 for the kid to use.

I'm sure there are some individuals out there who collect every iPad.

Rather pointless I say, but it's your money.

If you are, you have a lot of catching up to do.

You're not the only one!

  • Original iPad (32 GB, Wifi)
  • iPad 2 (32 GB, Verizon)
  • iPad 3 (32 GB, Verizon)
  • iPad Air (128 GB, Verizon)
  • iPad Air 2 (16 GB, Wifi)
  • iPad Pro 9.7 (128 GB, Verizon)
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (128 GB, Wifi)
  • iPad Mini 1 (32 GB, Verizon)
  • iPad Mini 2 (32 GB, AT&T)
  • iPad Mini 2 (32 GB, Verizon)
  • iPad Mini 4 (128 GB, Verizon)
Also a small collection of Newton MessagePads!

Many of my old iPads are displaying pictures/art. A couple I have docked in strategic locations as video/internet. The two Pros and the Mini 4 are my daily devices.

I love finding uses for my old devices, though some are just display.

What about iPad "4" and mini 3 (the only ones missing)?

I have kids and they get all my Apple hand me downs.

1 year old has the original iPad still going strong for movies/shows in the car
4 year old has my iPad air 2

Not too shabby kids!

I think it's pretty cool. Years from now you'll be able to go back and see how archaic the technology was.
I always sell my current model MacBook or iPad in order to purchase a newer one.

Your kids have it good! My daughters, nine and six years old, have my old iPad mini 2 and iPad "4", respectively. They're happy with 'em.

I'm happy, too, as I have an excuse/reason to semi-regularly upgrade to the newest model(s).

Someday I'll have to complete the collection!

I never bought the 4 because I was super satisfied with the 3 and I had a 4 at work.

I bought the mini 2 when the mini 3 was announced (and I recently was gifted another mini 2 - long story).

I would say, from a personal perspective, the 4 and the mini 3 were the only models I just haven't had an interest in. The 4 wasn't enough of an upgrade, and the mini 3 was just completely uninteresting. Every other iPad model was significant enough for me to want to upgrade.

Not intentionally. I still have my iPad 1, iPad 2, (my daughter has my iPad 4 and my wife has my Air 2), I currently have a 12.9 iPad Pro and Mini 4.

All are still actively used.

I've been bitten by the Vintage ThinkPad bug... started with a T42 in great shape for $25 and now looking at other models.

I sell the old ones to Gazelle, Amazon, etc. Cash instead of clutter.

That said, I use my iPad the least of all of my Apple devices. It rarely leaves the house unless I am traveling and at home, I use it sparingly for couch surfing while watching television (I spend very little time sitting in front of the TV). While traveling, it's great for watching movies/TV shows on a long flight or for e-book reading. I'm sure it would get more use if I had kids.

Now that's a hobby I could get behind.

Do you use them for anything?
Yes! Back-in-the-day, T42's came preloaded with XP. I created a CD that contains an XP+SP3 install image and installed that on it. Applied all of the updates to it. Cleaned it up. Installed adblock Plus and Ghostery plugins for Firefox and Opera. Works great. I have a ton of XP-era software that is still very capable. It could be my daily driver but I'll be using it for running vintage software.

When I compare it to my Macbook Pro (now deceased) and current Macbook Air, I had forgotten how compact these ThinkPads were. VERY thin bezel! Full keyboard. And virtually everything is user replaceable.

I was with IBM as a software developer/engineer for 30 years (retired from them) and amassed quite a bit of software. I installed OS/2 on a spare drive because the DOS box support is 2nd to none... sadly too many drivers were missing.

Sorry OP for hijacking this thread.

I have thought about collecting Apple Newton but I decided not to....not sure why.

Newtons are cool collectibles!
I have:
  • OMP (Original MessagePad)
  • Case-less MP 110 (still works!)
  • Two MP2000 (with the 2100 upgrade)
  • eMate 300
All of them still work! My MP2000 was my daily carry until the original iPad came out.

I also collect Macs:
  • Original Macintosh
  • Macintosh TV
  • Original Bondi Blue iMac
  • Original iMac G4
  • iMac G5
  • iMac with Intel Processor
  • Original Mac Mini
  • PowerBook 100
  • PowerBook 145
  • PowerBook Duo 210
  • PowerBooks Duo 230
  • PowerBook Duo 270c
  • PowerBook 520c
  • PowerBook 5300
  • PowerBook 3400
  • PowerBook G3
  • iBook G3 (Snow white)
  • iBook G4 14"
  • PowerBook G4 12"
  • MacBook 15"
  • MacBook Retina
Coolest thing about collecting Macs is you can find them so cheap on eBay!
Would LOVE to find:
  • G4 Cube
  • 20th Anniversary Mac
  • PowerBook 2400
