I've heard of the Collective Unconscious but this is the first time i've come across the Collective Insanity.

It started innocently enough when I bought a case for my GPS, from a GPS accessory specialist on eBay.

I'll leave out most of the idiocy and cut to the chase. My model GPS is called a Summit, it does not have a button on the front. Like most manufacturers Garmin make variations on their product line. The case I bought was advertised for the Summit.

The case they sent me had a hole in it that the neoprene cover goes around. The hole is for a different model eTrex that has a button on the Front.

It's all OK so far just a simple mistake one would think. But when I took this up with the seller they Insisted that it was the correct model and I am an idiot for bringing up the hole because the seller never said the item was waterproof. Yes they really said this.

After numerous ridiculous replies from Paypal including one where they said to me that if someone send me an unsolicited parcel that I neither ordered nor paid for that it is my responsibility to pay to return it to the seller. I have the emails.

Finally I contacted the company, Gilsson who confirmed with me this morning that the model case that they sell for the Summit is indeed the correct case.

    You decide...

Am I being too picky in complaining about a 'designed to protect' product that has a frikken hole in the front of it.

    does it fit still?
    does it still protect it?

if those answers are yes, then its the correct item.

Fit? as in will it go over the Summit. Yep. But then again I could give you a jumper with a hole in the back of it, which will still fit you in the sense that you can still put it on.

Does it protect it? Well it is protected against drops but it's not protected against the screen being scratched because there's a useless hole in the front of it, right next to the screen.

    New report of insanity

I wrote to a seller on eBay asking the price of their GPS and I got a curt reply saying they are Garmin dealers and will not ship to Australia under any circumstances.

I wrote back asking why they are so loyal to Garmin seeing as Garmin has well and truly shafted them by announcing their new Hi Res models three months in advance and also saying that they will be the same price as the current models.

The reply I got said they don't understand what I'm on about, they are happy to sell me whatever I want. This reply had their previous reply saying they won't sell to me under any circumstances, quoted at the bottom.

They also said that the new models will be dearer, so I sent them a clipping from the Garmin site showing the same price.

Am I going mad or is the world slowly but surely going crazy?
