If I were you I'd exchange it for the 2.4ghz model mbp for just $200 more from the $1799 the mba was for the $1999 mbp.

The mba is a fine machine (owned it as well) but if you get the 15" mbp you can use it as your main machine and carry it around and sell your desktop if you have to.

It is very portable the 15" and is a great size to carry around. But now if you do exchange you will have to deal with a restock fee.

i think you should go for the mbp.. i just finished my first year of college and i had my mbp by my side the whole way. i never had a problem transporting it.. i just threw it in my bag and went.. but ive also never own a mba so i cant really compare there.. both of my parents have macbooks and i dont really feel too much of a difference from those.

also i think having two machines would be a little stressfull and sorta an unnecessary hassle. if you just got the macbook pro there would be no worries. like sometimes you meet with a study group or head to the library unplanned.. and if your notes or documents you needed weren't on that one computer.. it would be a pain..

so in my opinion a macbook pro would be the most ideal situation for college.. also i do a lot of traveling and the size / weight of the mbp has never been an issue..

I think you should go MBP. Two machines to take care of in college, isn't the best choice I think. I suggest you go MBP route.

I bought a MBP for college last summer and I have to say that it's been really convenient to have my entire computer with me all the time.
I totally agree!

blah blah but what is making me cry about the MBA is the Hard Drive space... I want to be able to port around my entire music library and I cant do that on the AIR... I also want to be able to sync my iPhone to my MBP instead of the desktop! I feel like I just want everything in one place instead of a Desktop, MBA and iPhone... just a MBP and iPhone :(.
The amount of content rearranging that I had to do when I used an Air as my main machine became a huge PITA, so I sold it and picked up a 15" MBP.

If the next gen MBA has at least a 120GB drive, I'll probably swap back again. I love love LOVE the Air's form factor... just hated having to keep track of where my stuff was (some on my Time Capsule, some on an external USB drive, etc)
