After updating my ATV4K to the latest OS Monday evening, the calibration process worked on my first try with an iPhone 12 and LG 2019 OLED in a darkened room. With my set up the calibration window on the TV was about chest height. I held the phone as close as possible to the TV without touching. Just a random data point. FWIW I am in the middle of the South Korean series Mr. Sunshine on Netflix. The series, depicting S. Korea in the early 1900s, bursts with colorful outdoor and indoor scenery as well as colorful costumes. IOW, a good test for calibration. After the calibration the character's skin tones seem to contain more texture, while the scenery, costumes appeared a bit "warmer".

I’m amazed people have waited until Apple bring this out to properly calibrate their expensive displays.

Doesn’t work for me, either..

Tried a LOT of times. In daylight, total dark room and everything in between. Also with different distances, from touching the screen (which makes it possible to hold the phone still) to as much as possible to make it work.

It stops at the same place every time which is in the middle (you can see it on the rotating circle).

Restarted ATV and TV many times, doesn’t help either.

Apple TV HD, Sony TV and iPhone X.

First of all, big 4K TVs are not expensive. I have a 65" and a 75" Samsung 4K TV and I didn't spend $2K on both of them combined... and secondly, this process is not calibrating the TV as much as it is tuning the output from the AppleTV to match your "best picture" on your TV. Apples v oranges.

Try moving it around a little slowly, inside the rectangle

for me the rectangle was gigantic, and it did not kick in until I pressed the iphone against the tv. Then the iphone vibrated and the process started.

Agree with other comments, the calibrated color had sand more ... sandy.

I bet for apple arcade games and stuff though that this would add latency? or is this only for video corrections?

Has anyone gotten it to work with a plamsa TV? I have a Panasonic ST30 camera and an iPhone 12 Max Pro. I can get the matrix/computer brain screen to pop up, but can't ever get past step 1.

I used the color calibration feature 6 months ago and it worked perfectly with my Neo-QLED. I tried it again with with my new OLED and it was hard to get it to pair and would fail before it started. I realized my old tv and entertainment center had the Apple TV and TV sitting on the same shelf with the new entertainment center the Apple TV sits on a separate shelf under the shelf the TV sits on. I moved my Apple TV out so it was hanging off the shelf and tried again and it worked perfectly. So yeah TV and Apple TV have to be close together as well. Almost line of sight between the TV screen and the Apple TV. I just had to pull the Apple TV forward about 10 inches leaving it hanging in the air from the HDMI and power cable (luckily the Apple TV is small and light weight). I did the calculation a few times and it connected perfectly and calibrated perfectly every time. The iPhone actually paired better when the phone was closer to the TV screen rather than closer to the Apple TV. If you are having issues pull your Apple TV out of your entertainment center so your TV screen is in view of the Apple TV (even though it uses your phone)
