Has anyone noticed this at all? I don't remember ever seeing such severe banding before. I have an LG Oled and it's most noticeable when listening to Apple music with the blurred backgrounds.

did you maybe switch the default from HDR to SDR?
that would increase banding.

I normally don't use the audio playback on the aTV much. so just a guess

I've always set the the UI to SDR as HDR can screw up non HDR videos. Again, this seem like a new issue since It never used to be like this.

What HDMI lead are you using buddy?
I'm asking because I have the ATV 4K with LG B7 OLED and Apple supplied Belkin HDMI 2.1 cable and the whole thing is truly fantastic with tvOS 12.
I'm on Match for both frame and HDR and have it set to 60hz SDR.
We are going to watch 'Rough Night' on it tonight an iTunes bought film that's 4K Dolby Vision AND Dolby Atmos so it should be out of this world orgasmic with creme brûlée!
I'll check the UI when on SDR - in fact i'll even put some glasses on to be super critical and let you know :)

same here

was just wondering if maybe in the upgrade it changed itself over to HDR

Just checked and no banding at all!!!
OMG this is the first iTunes film that i've heard with Dolby Atmos. DD+ is so clear - everything on the film simply sparkled from speech to sound effects to the music soundtrack. WOW the audio on the film was truly alive. SHAME that the film was so terrible though and a SONY pictures with crappy SONY smartphones and Dell computers in the film - not a single Apple product - poor showing SONY and what a low budget film too. Gutted that I bought the film as oh damn, I really don't want sit through that again!
But well done Apple for a super clear DD+ Atmos.

Some of the early LG's have been known to suffer from banding. Does it happen on anything else? Darke scenes in 4K etc?

Search for it on AVS forum or AV forum and you will find the ways and means to check there.

Running the beta here and no banding on my OLED.

Don't see banding on anything else other than the music app. At least severely. You can't get rid of banding completely on any panel. I understand that, but it's quite severe when playing music. Have you played music yet?

No banding on my LG. I have had issues in the past with other devices and had to set it to 4:4:4 due to a known bug in denon/marantz receivers.

Had a shufty as I have never used this app. Seems to be OK, no banding. I don't subscribe so it was what I have in my library, if that makes any difference.
