Hi Everyone. I know nothing about video or videography but I was just wondering why you will see a color block before a video plays. This is the image.. (I know this is kind of vague, I'm just curious as to its purpose)

This is to get the monitor calibrated. If you see those bars and the colors (or rather, luminance) don't match what they're supposed to look like (i.e. red is blue, green is yellow), then you know that the monitor's settings have to be changed.

Generally these color bars are combined with an audio tone set at a specific dB level, so you can also change the volume of your speakers so it's neither too loud nor too soft.
