I have bought yesterday a new 15" MacBook Pro mid 2015 to replace my older 2012 model.

But running next to each other it seemed that the 2012 models screen seem to be brighter.
Is that normal due the difference in GFX card (both the onboard and dedicated one)?

display is an independent unit in that case. Brightness depends only from settings and actual display.

Retina displays can be a little duller due to the light having to get through far greater pixel desity, if it doesn't bother you too much get used to it, if it does take it to a store and compare or get apple to check the brightness levels for you.

Interesting, my 2015 13" rMBP is much brighter than my 2009 model but I'm guessing after 6 years, displays would degrade. After all there are some darker spots (dying pixels) slowly appearing.

Does this looks good for a retina display?
