Is this normal for an IPS LCD display?

Thank you for your reply.

It's been just a few days since I got the 11 and I was worried that the display is defective because my other phone is an 8 plus and I have to tilt it further and make an effort to see these waves from a specific angle. A 15-20 degree something is enough for iphone 11 to easily show them.

Also, I couldn't find a similar complaint about iphone 11's screen anywhere, which got me worried. I'd be relieved if I could see a similar post with photos.

You could start by posting a photo of your phone with an actual screen image on it. An all white screen isn’t representative of what you see during day to day use. Also, why would you take absence of critical comments as worrisome? Most people would see that as the exact opposite.

I started by posting white screens because of my previous troublesome experience with an iphone 12's oled display. It had uneven colors and hues there and there, which led me to read the discussions in this forum about uniformity and off-axis tests, the oled lottery etc. before trading it for this 11. Such an experience kind of 'recalibrated' my vision and now I'm seeing things (on device displays :) that I've never noticed before.

I've also learned that Apple uses different manufacturers for its devices, causing differences in display qualities. My 12 had an LG display and my friend's 12 with a Samsung display, which is almost perfect, has none of the issues my display had.

Iphone 11's screens are also manufactured by three manufacturers: LG, Toshiba and Sharp. My 8 plus has a Toshiba display, no color shifts, no dimming. My 11 has a Sharp display and I thought maybe there is also an ips lcd lottery and I got the inferior one.

Sorry for the long post, but this was my train of thought :)

Maybe it is the "dual domain pixels" in 6, 6 plus and 8 plus displays that make them so good.
11's ips lcd does not have that.

Quote: Dual domain pixels allow for broad viewing angles and better color saturation.

I wish I could compare it with another 11 screen. Unfortunately no one around me has one and the store in my small town has only 12s in demo display :(

Reactions: now i see it
The 11 LCD doesn't look as good to me as the 6/6s/7/8/SE screens either. Its slightly irritating in a different way vs the OLED screens with PWM. I've tried every setting, and my 6s is more relaxing to look at. Not sure why. Its not the resolution, they are both 326ppi. It's something with the "Liquid Retina LCD" vs the older screens.

Exactly. Especially when reading something on a white background in safari, I dont know how to describe it, my eyes kinda get dazzled and the screen starts to look dirty with very subtle discolorations and hues of green and pink (which are probably not there), making me very uncomfortable.

Can you use 3utools to look at your display's manufacturer? I wonder if it is Sharp like mine.

PS: I've found ot that the color waves in the photos above were caused by the thick, tempered glass screen protector. I removed it and the waves are gone.
