I turned on my macbook today and found these colored lines down the center of my screen:

(sorry for the bad quality, but you get the idea)

Is this from a crack in the LCD screen, and would it be possible to replace this myself so I don't have to spend a few hundred dollars on it at the Apple store?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

Before you go replacing anything, you need to determine if it's the graphics card or the LCD causing this problem. You will need a mini-DVI dongle though, to connect your machine to an external monitor. Does the distortion also appear on an external monitor, when it is used as your main display? If no, then you do need a new LCD.

Do NOT replace it yourself. There is a company that you can mail your Macbook to, they will replace your LCD overnight and ship it back to you for $150-180. They are definitely the way to go in this case. Do some research, as the name of the company escapes me.
