You no doubt have the answer somewhere written in this forum. However, I am perplexed. I have hunted for this for so long, that it would be nice if someone would just tell me how to get it back where it belongs, which is "About this Mac" and inside More info.....

That's odd. The file might not be writable to System Profiler, or locked, or the folder that contains it might not be writable/might be locked, or there's an ACL somewhere further up the chain causing this...

I say these things because System Profiler should automatically recreate its preferences file, if it's not there. In any case, you can use Disk Utility to repair permissions, which will correct this problem if it finds it.
