I've gone around the loop on this one numerous times, and I still don't get it.

We have an Apple Music Family account, which my wife and son are both part of.

We also have a large collection (and growing) of physical CDs - some of which are not on Apple Music. I import those CDs to my Mac and (I think!) they're uploaded to our iCloud music library. However, my wife can't see these CDs if she has syncing turned on - we have one Mac - so it appears I have to sync these via a wired connection to the Mac.

Is this the right, and/or most efficient way of doing it?

I would have hoped that having uploaded stuff to the shared iCloud music library then everyone ought to be able to access them???

Confused ;(

I’m assuming that you and your wife have your own unique Apple IDs? In which case I‘m pretty sure that if you are ripping the CDs and uploading them to Apple Music via your Apple ID then they will only be part of your music library, not your wife’s music library, which will be linked to her Apple ID. The Apple Family plan gives all of the family access to Apple Music, but you each have and can each manage your own music library, playlists etc. At least I think that’s how it works but someone on here is sure to know.

Thanks. So, I guess our way of sharing our CDs is probably optimal. Logged into my account on the Mac everything gets uploaded to the cloud and syncing everything to my wife’s iPhone via a cable to my Mac.

Doesn’t seem a massive leap to allow a shared cloud music library but clearly not what Apple had in mind!

I have the same issue as you. I used to do it just like you stated. I now just told her to start grabbing music that she wants from the ample music app and make her own playlists.

Wow...this crazy. I think I have the same problem. Historically I had an account called "itunes@familyname.com". We used this early on in our Apple experience on all devices. As we got more personal devices we added in accounts for Scott and Kate@familyname.com. Later we formed a family. It seems like my wife was using iTunes@familyname.com for music and Kate@familyname.com for everything else. She got a new phone and logged in only as "Kate" and saw none of our shared music (but had access to our Apple Music subscription) but not our extensive ripped CD library (uploaded under itunes@familyname.com). It's odd that the ripped CD libraries don't get shared thru the family.

It is odd, I also went down the route (twice I think, with a few years inbetween, of thinking iTunes Match was the answer and it isn’t!)
