Hey everybody,

I'm giving my computer to my sister and I just deleted nearly everything off it if-- programs wise and my account.

I've been noticing that the past 6 months however, that my combo drive doesnt read CDs anymore. It can't write them either. I've tried zapping the PRAM about it, and it's done nothing. The drive ejects fine and everything, and even reads DVDs correctly, however audio or blank CDs will not work.

System profiler shows the Philips drive there, and my 3rd party DVD writer.

What could possibly be wrong? :(

Thanks in advance

1. If you are giving it away, just do a clean instal of OS X. Much easier.

I don't really know... try repairing permissions, and perhaps installing Patchburn 3. But I have to say, its quite a bit easier to just Re-install OS X now so that when you give it away you don't have to worry, and see if that clears it up.

What computer is it?

If it can boot into OS 9 do that and see if it has the same problem. This should tell you if it is hardware of software related.
