I have problems with my late 2009 27" iMac's combo drive.

It does read CD-Roms after it works a while, but when i enter an empty DVD-RW, it works for a while and then spit it out again. Any ideas? Except going to Apple and have them replace it?

The drive:

HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA11N:

Firmware-Version: KA18
Verbindungstyp: ATAPI
Brennen möglich: Ja (Laufwerk von Apple geliefert)
Cache: 2048 KB
DVD lesen: Ja
Beschreibbare CD: -R, -RW
Beschreibbare DVD: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Schreibstrategien: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

If it's under warranty, it's a no-brainer. Take it to Apple. If not, you can get an external burner.

And that's not a combo drive. It's a super drive. (burns DVDs)

i had a similar problem with my mac mini i tried to install my print driver from a disk and every time i put it in it made a terrible noise and spat it out.
i know thats not much help but i have a similar problem
