it should be

encrypted so you can watch it anywhere. To watch it in your house is kinda dumb, and it'll probably be set up so that the feed will take up one of your tuners inside the box. Try to watch a show and record another and it wont work. MAYBE

People who hate this have no business using iPad. Idea is to have as much available from iPad.

Now where the hell is Verizon on this.

Comcast could release the cure for AIDS and I wouldn't give a ****. Horrible company.

Anywhere, Anytime...

As long as it's in your home where you already have TVs, and no other iPad is viewing it, and as long as it's live, and as long as it's one of the select shows on one of the select channels.

Right...

Meanwhile, most of the networks have their own apps for watching live or on demand as long as you're a Comcast (or other select) subscriber.

Is this really that hard?

Comcast, for the love of God, figure this out... Create a "network" app that features live and on demand channels of all the major networks. Allow this app to work on any network along with scaling down to 3G. Allow this app to work via AirPlay. Then, offer this app for existing customers, or allow new customers to sign up for the app service only.

What you'll find is that markets where someone else has the cable service, you're now able to penetrate, just like satellite, except, unlike satellite, cable, FiOS or other delivery, you don't have to pay for the dumb pipes.

The cable companies don't have the rights to let you watch TV outside your home. Why the hell do you think they limit their apps to in-home? Certainly not by choice.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

FYI it will work over any wifi, does not need a local network. I have it right now. Took to the airport over the weekend and can watch live tv. Best part is it's going to be a free service. It's the same app as xfinity tv, just hasn't been released yet.

If you set up a VPN at home, I'm guessing then you'll be able to play it everywhere anywhere?

Or maybe, just simple port forwarding if we find out what IP/port is doing the streaming?

His info is incorrect. It's actually a media server. It does the same thing as a sling box. It's actually IPTV and it's available on any wifi service. And you get the same channels your cable box gets. And you'll be able to use your DVR function because dvr on the box is going away and will be backed up on servers.

Wow, if those prices are correct no one will buy this. I have Time Warner cable and i got their app on my iPad (free). It works great and is kinda cool, but we really don't use it much, we have plenty of tv's. No way in hell I would pay for this service.

Eff you comcrap!

Sorry, I thought it would be obvious I was joking. I don't work for comcast.. :D

Dinosaur Trying To Stay Relevant

As soon as I can watch every game of my favorite college football team via ATV2......Comcast is history in this house!!!!

Rule of Thumb

If it's internet-based, plugging into the back of your cable/satellite etc., it's good. It offers you TV whenever you're in range of the Internet, which is usually or always. If it's provider, like this, they're just going to make it restrictive. Make you pay like the ON DEMAND service.

The TV in my bedroom is busted (the lower half of the LCD crapped out). And as much as I'd love to be able to replace it, there are too many other things requiring my $$$ like student loan repayment, car repair and just today a replacement Airport Extreme. :(

So this could definitely be nice for the time being. I do have Slingbox but even on wifi and HD setting the quality could still be better. I also already have a Motorola Comcast box so hopefully no replacement will be needed.

I lost all interest in this once I read

The service won't work over Wi-Fi from other locations, or via 3G.

I mean being able to do it at home is nice too, since sometimes other people are using the t.v. but what is great, is being able to do that anywhere you have an internet connection.

Yeah, I'm hoping a VPN will work. Then you could do it from anywhere.

As an Apple fan on an Apple-centric site, this shouldn't be a complaint of yours, or even sarcasm. It's Apple's way. Been this way for the better part of a decade.

Those who don't like it, usually don't hang around Apple forums to post about it.

On the contrary people who don't like it, actually do hang around apple forums to post about it. Pretty sad. Some ppl need a hobby

why is it stupid? i have 1 TV, and share it with wife and lil kids.

or, how about the college kids who don't have a tv and share an apartment.

it doesnt say you have to replace anything.

College kids without a tv but with a cable subscription?

Yeahhh but...

From what I understand, there will be a limited bandwidth which means that we could probably watch 2 or 3 episodes before shelling out the big bucks!

Traditional cable companies are still living in the 80s and 90s.
They really suck.
Why it is so difficult for them to offer a decent TV package, customized by the customer, you hand pick the channels that you do want to pay for and that's it.
All are full of infomercials and Ads that make them impossible to enjoy.
I only hope that Google or any newcomer makes a revolution and really changes the way this services are offered.
Netflix has the right model, however is still lacking some of the content, specially live events and sports.
YouTube is now offering cool things like live concerts and some pro-sports, for FREE!!! and no ADS!!!
As I type this I am watching Rock in Rio 2011 live via YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/rockinrio

Hulu+ has too many annoying Ads.
I hope the TV studios and Cable companies don't mess up with the few nice services that are currently out there.
