I just realized that "Come sail Away" by Styx, a song I listen to since I was a kid, is about an alien abduction.
Just wanted to let you know; it's important.

I don't know where you read that it is about alien abduction but, that isn't true.

The song is about Dennis DeYoung and the band Styx, as they experience the ups and downs of the music business.

"Dennis: I think the song “Come Sail Away” means so much to people because it is a song of a great journey to be someplace else. It is a song of guarded hope that it can be better. The character in the song says in the very beginning that he wants to set a course for a virgin sea. He doesn’t want to be held back; he wants to have all options open to him. It is fraught with peril and he realizes in the second verse that he chased the pot of gold but that he didn’t get it. We, Styx, didn’t get it either, but that isn’t going to stop us from moving forward.

Jeb: The song is about you.

Dennis: Totally. This is about the disappointment of what I had lived through. It is the realization of the good and the bad; some happy, some sad. The song talks about childhood friends. I’m talking about the band and our dreams and I’m trying to encourage myself to carry on. I had to carry on; I needed to."

I seem to remember a line about boarding a starship and receiving an anal probe. Of course, my memory from the 70s is a little hazy.

If you play Stairway to Heaven backwards it's about Satan. #noitsnot #dohashtagsworkhere

Well, that one part sounds kinda weird. If you play the section of the song that starts with "if there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now" backwards, it goes something like...

Oh-MAH-su-weet Say-TAHN-Moshteperduvertguhurduh Say-TAHN.

So yeah, it's there, man. Totally there.

The first time I heard "Come Sail Away" was on vinyl, so glad I had that experience. I still think the songs sound better on vinyl than any other sound medium.

Great song. My wife plays some classic rock for our kiddos and their friends when driving around town. I love the fact that while many of their friends are singing modern radio pop my boys know great songs from bands like Styx, Journey, and others.

Nice to see that you are raising those boys right.

Great band, to this day I still like "Mr. Roboto". I know most folks don't like the song, but there is something about it for me. From the first time I heard it, I was hooked. Then you go back and listen to "Renegade" and others. Great band. Never saw them live though. :(
