Comex/Saurik has a reputation of stating jailbreaks will be made when iOS X.X (not X.X.x) is released as to avoid Apple patches from minor updates such as 4.2.1. He's done it in the past as it seems he'll do it again.
It's Comexs/Saurik's prerogative and some are partially correct that it's free. However there are many paid Cydia applications users such as myself cannot use until an official jailbreak for their iPhones (my iPhone 4 was replaced with a new one and its SHSH blobs were not saved). So yes, it's a double edged sword. Saurik has been charging for applications/services and as such constitutes a small business owner and should maintain his work in the same vein.

I always donate at least $15 with every jailbreak because I can imagine all the exhaustive work and hours that must goes into every JB release. I think most people do not realize the extent of development needed to create these tools - including myself. I think they should really charge a fee $20 or more per JB. I would happily pay that and it is a small charge considering the benefits it provides.
I don't think you get it. The dev team doesn't want donation. I don't think they even care if you/public can JB or not. They are enjoying the work. That's the difference between them and Geohot. Geohot is a little kid that wants attention and money.
So does the Dev team, and in top of it, they stay connected to support and help users, they not only deliver better quality tools that not only JB but also consider future upgrades and unlocks but they also TEST everything before releasing it. (Note: they don't put photos of themselves on the tool of their website either)

Limera1n final has been released like 4 days after the first beta which was very very stable. Who needs support to follow 3 steps that limera1n requires ?
There is around 957346 versions of redsn0w, maybe thats why they need to offer support.
Not saying that dev team are not good. They sure are. But Geohot is a lot better.
Now for the unlock, utrasn0w ( dev team)>>geohot for sure since he hasnt released an unlock since 3.1.2.
I dont really care if he puts pictures of him since he made these tools and not like he wasnt good.

I have a quick question guys, sorry I'm not trying to hijack or anything lol, but my question is I'm on 4.1 and I wanna restore just because my fone is getting slow and crashes sometimes, so I wanna restore to 4.1 not 4.2.1, because the untethered jailbreak is not out yet, can I just shift + restore to a downloaded 4.1 ipsw? or I'm gonna get errors? or is it possible to update to 4.2.1 than shift+restore to 4.1? any help would be appreciated

You need your SHSH for 4.1 ( see cydia on top first page).
You also need tinyumbrella running the TSS server while you shift click and select 4.1 ipsw.

So, is this 4.2b3 IPSW the only one the dev team could crack? Seems weird they'd throw all their efforts into a blob that very few people even have.
They didn't focus their effort on it, they had a bug since 4.0 that it was fix on 4.2.1 GM, so the last firmware that had the bug still was 4.2b3. All they did was to use that bug that is already lost for those who got those SHSHs which is actually a large part of jailbreakers. Their effort have been on 4.2.1 untethered.
The twitter posts seem to indicate they could do Monte with either 4.1 or 4.2b3 or even something older and they chose the b3 because the shsh db has more people in it with b3 than 4.1, and the people that had 4.1 also has b3 because of the make my life easier thing. Makes sense to me. Unfortunately if you have to have the developer ipsw that brings in some legal implications as that is a dev only tool that shouldn't be stolen.

If 4.3 comes out before the untethered jb is ready {AND Apple has not closed any security holes} then the untethered jb will work on 4.3.
But when all this is said and done, I wonder if it will still be limited to people who have the 4.2b3 blobs...
Not it won't be limited to those with 4.2b3 SHSH. Thats the diff. between his method and the monte jailbreak that MN and others are trying to make stable right now.
