I currently have a mid range Android smartphone, with unlimited data. I'll be switching to AT&T if I do get the iPhone 4S. The more I think about it, the more I want one, but I have to be realistic.

I definitely can't upgrade to the 5 if it comes out within a year, because AT&T doesn't allow for the early upgrade with the subsidized price. I definitely can't afford paying $700 every time a new iPhone comes out, even if I were to sell the 4S.

Would waiting 1+ years for whatever may come with the iPhone 5 be worth it? Realistically speaking. I have an iPod Touch, 3rd gen, but it's starting to slow down.
I just switched from an EVO 4G to the iPhone 4S. I bought it outright because I wasn't due for an upgrade yet. I plan on selling my 4S to get the next iPhone (if I want it). I am so glad I did. I think waiting is a losing proposition. First of all who knows if you're even going to like the next iPhone? Instead of waiting you could be enjoying the 4S to it's fullest in the coming year.

And I don't think I understand your logic. If you buy the iPhone now you can sell it in a year for about $400 (based on todays used iPhone 4 prices that I've seen). You then need to add $350 to get a 32GB. That's only $50 more than the subsidized price of $299 for the 32GB. I'm assuming that you're buying it subsidized now, right? It's just a matter of keeping the phone in mint condition and taking care of everything so it looks like new one year from now. All my electronics, portable or otherwise, all look like I just bought them yesterday. If you do that you can always command a higher resale price.

And on the other hand, if you get the 4S now the next time you're ready for an upgrade the iPhone5S or whatever it's going to be is going to be released so either way you win.

When I first got my 4S coming from Android it was a bit anti-climatic. I've been using an iPod Touch and iPads for a couple years now so I was really familiar with iOS. So when I got my phone it wasn't a WOW!! But after using it for a couple of weeks I did get the WOW!! Not so much because I learned anything new but more because of how smooth and seamless the phone is. I never have to worry about reboots or lag. Everything works the way it should the moment I need it. My WOW moments were like: WOW I never had to reboot my phone or WOW I'm taking a lot more really great pictures now or WOW the screen is really sharp. And much more.

I spent some time in the Sprint store a few days ago (About three soul tearing hours) so I had time to really play around with the SGS2 and I found out that I really dislike Android. Not only that but the phone itself felt cheap and gave me the impression it wouldn't last out a two year contract, just my opinion.

Anyway I've rambled enough. Good luck on whatever you decide :) :apple:

As a 4 owner. Yes definitely wait.

This was really helpful.
I agree, iOS seems so much smoother, Android is feeling clunky nowadays, especially with my low-ish specs on my phone. Hell, the high end phones feel a bit laggy at times.

I think I'll be selling the iPhone 4S when it comes time (assuming the 32GB will sell for 600+ dollars) and the upgrade won't cost me too much.

I think you'd be lucky to sell a used 32GB iPhone 4S for $400 in a year. Well I guess you could sell it for anything you want but finding a buyer is another thing altogether.

With it being this early in the iPhone 4S's life span, I would not wait to upgrade...especially if you want a new phone now. However, if you have no reason whatsoever to get an iPhone now, and you don't mind waiting a year, then sure...it may be worth waiting.

Yeah I think $600 is wishful thinking though not impossible. If you add some accessories and nice cases, who knows? You would also have to be patient. I think $400 to $450 with no accessories is realistic. If you had checked Craigslist before the 4S came out you'd see a lot of iPhone 4 models going for $400 and some even a bit higher. The nice thing about the 4S which should also help with resale value is the A5 processor, Siri and the phenomenal camera. That's why I firmly believe $400 to $450 is realistic.

Yes, 600 is wishful thinking. I'm sure I'll buy a few cases and screen shields though.

I'll probably go with the white 32GB; it resells better.
