Hi! I used to own a iPhone 7+ but got the urge to try something new. For the last 6 months I have been using a Samsung Note 8. While there are some things I like (the pen, the camera), there are some things I dont (battery life, curved screen). I am thinking of returning to the fold.

I am pricing either a iPhone 8+ or a iPhone X. On Verizon with trade in, the price difference is about $100 to go from the 8+ to the X at each memory size.

I am torn. I do like touch ID and the red 8+. I am having a hard time deciding if I am ready for the notch and face ID. But otherwise the X seems amazing. Can both phones use an Otterbox commuter with a tempered glass screen protector? I use my phone on a RAM mount on my motorcycle and when kayaking and like the protection.

Is battery life comparable? I know new phones are coming this year, but I bet the 8 stays the same as the legacy footprint right? The X will likely change?

Thanks!

I had a Note 8 for about 2 months before I switched to the iPhone X and I'm overall very happy with it. The pen on the Note was cool but I found I didn't use it much. I can't specifically verify the Otterbox/screen protector compatibility. I happen to think that FaceID is a big improvement but I agree the red 8 Plus is nice.

The battery life on my iPhone X does seem to be much better than the Note. My Note seemed to run down quickly throughout the day--though this was mitigated somewhat by the fact that fast charging on the Note was simply amazing. Fast charging on the iPhone X doesn't come close.

If you're a big phone person, it might be worth it to wait for the iPhone X "Plus".

I just came from a note 8, I chose the 8 plus big difference in battery life! My 8 plus battery is amazing and I'm a heavy user!

Thanks guys! I admit I am leaning towards the 8+ just because I actually like the physical home button and touch ID.

If Anything, you would have 14 days at least find out if that something you still would want to keep versus the iPhone X. Also, internally, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 are very similar sharing the same processor.

I came from the note 8 too and my main complain was the battery life. Leaving the phone off the charger would mean that I would lose about 1% every hour. The iPhone 8 plus doesn't lose any battery at all! I don't know why Android can't do this... One thing I don't like about the iPhone 8 plus is that it does not have face unlock. It's always nice to have that feature when something is covering your fingers like a glove. Ok so I do have more things I don't like about the iPhone 8 plus. My samsung gear s3 has issues with the connectivity to the phone. The Samsung Gear app is not optimized to run in ios. If the iPhone X had a much larger screen similar to the note 8 I would have purchased it instead, but I didn't like the size. The iPhone seems to charge slower using wireless charging compared to the note 8. The camera just hands down isn't as good as the note 8 unfortunately. I wish it had a widescreen format like on the note 8.

Note 8 is solid and might have some nicer features but iphone offers simplicity and intagration.

Verizon has a nice deal. Trade in a Note 8, get $400 off a iPhone 8 or $500 off a iPhone X. It really makes it hard to decided! $500 is about what I could get for the Note 8 on Swappa but much easier.

Would be losing a couple hundred as well...

Also have a Note 8 and moved to an iPhone X.... FaceID sucks, but the camera and ecosystem experience is better on the iPhone (not to mention privacy).

Screen is nicer on the Note, notifications are better on the 8 and over all Android usablility is nicer, but when you look a the ecosystem as a whole, the iPhone X is a better experience. Just my view, of course everyone’s situation is different.

Yeah that is an accurate assumption.
The X is an overpriced device.

I would say that’s a variable opinion, because it depends on how somebody values the iPhone X and what they actually want to achieve from it and it’s usefulness to them in the sense of the features, especially if the consumer is coming from an older model iPhone, they may feel it’s worth the price tag to them.

I agree. It is just my opinion.
