Apps do sleep tracking already, not everyone wants to wear a watch 24/7 either so would be useless to me and my wife. AOD is way better v a blank screen too.

I have zero desire to want to wear my Apple Watch to bed, and I never have. Sleep tracking isn’t of value to me, simply because my sleep is consistent and quality as is. But, it will be a huge feature when it does become native for the Apple Watch, in which Apple will definitely market it heavily. Also, given how ‘health oriented’ Apple is, I’m sure they’ve had sleep experts implementing studies for at least two years on the Apple Watch preparing for its debut.

What I personally find hard to understand is why the waveband even makes a difference? Both are on the same network, they are even on the same router. Just one is on AC and the other is on A/B/G or whatever the Watch will do (I forget the specifics).
I think I have managed to figure out the problem here, in a happy coincidence.

Since everything is going online whilst Covid-19 is rampant, I‘ve been looking at online gaming and some games need port forwarding on, which led me to my router and its settings...

Whilst looking at those I noticed the uPnP settings, and how it propagates for four hops across the network. As I’ve mentioned, my network is fairly complex. My main router (TimeMachine) is in my lounge, which connects to a powerline, which goes to another power line in my office, which goes to an Airport Express.

So: Watch > Airport Express > power line 1 > power line 2 > TimeMachine > iPhone

Five hops!

I’ve upped uPnP to eight hops and now it seems to work! I’m sat in my garden, my iphone is in my lounge and my Watch shows it is still connected but over WiFi.

Result! Years of head scratching solved!

Reactions: the future
I've had the Series 4 Silver and Gold SS and love them both. I ordered the Space Black Series 5 and got it today. I agree that the always on display was a very nice move. Double storage is nice as well. Hopefully Series 6 can increase battery life.
