So when we do this, it saves the image to the desktop, yes.
How can i change this? Have them save directly to a folder somewhere else? any help?

Look for a utility such as MacPilot or other such UI tweak utility, perhaps you can change the path using those tools.

Here's a thought, seeing as the application did what you wanted it to do, why not reward the author and buy it?

If you hold down Control at the same time, it'll copy the image to the clipboard instead, which may or may not be useful to you

I think we should lol. Download Onyx, which is a mac system utility that allows you to do all sorts of tweaks, including choosing where saved screenshots go and what format they are in.
