I am thinking of buying a rMBP. For my use which is writing and web surfing and entertainment is the i7 worth the extra cash? Also what chance is there of a redesign in the near future for the macbook pro. Would it be dramatic enough to hold off?

Which i7 are you referring to. The 13" or 15" model. The one in the 13" is still a dual core CPU and not significantly different from the i5. The one in the 15" is a quad core and significantly more powerful but probably over kill for what you want to use the laptop for. You don't say what you mean by entertainment. Can you be more specific. If it's games even the 15" with a dGPU won't be that great anyway unless they are fairy old or simple games. As for redesign that's anyone's guess. There may well be when laptops using Intel's Skylake chip sets are available but that's likely at least a year away.

Sorry for vagueness. yes, I was thinking of the 13" rather than the 15" as I realise that quad core is beyond my needs. I am not a gamer. Really just simple everyday tasks. I just want to know that all the cash I am shelving out will last at least 4-5years?

Thanks for your reply though. I'm an Apple newbie!
