My opinion is it is ok for what it is. It is an entry level device to get people into the apple ecosystem at less cost. The form factor is great! That wasn't enough for me to keep it though because the screen is bad. When it gets a better display I will purchase another. A tablet should be all about the viewing experience and the mini doesn't produce in the most important aspect.

If this is entry level to get into Apple ecosystem at a pretty good price, I done good.

But regardless, you cannot discount folks selling their higher quality iPads for the Mini. ;)

The iPhone 5 and the iPad Mini overlaps? How big are your pants?

HaHa... Now that was funny. Well one thing is for certain, the mini should fit better in the pants than the bigger iPad.

See there is is a silver lining in most everything if we just look for it. :D

I took the mini back after 1 day. I use the ipad for light Internet surfing, and this is the one thing that is poor on the mini. -- safari. I found that I had to zoom most of the time to read text.

What, all 3 of them?:D

The mini is an inferior product compared to an ipad 4. Plain and simple,

I went from an iPad 1 to the mini, superb form factor and weight. Very happy with the purchase, only problem I have is waiting for Apple to bring out the Smart Case for it (don't want the naked back!).

This is my situation as well. Coming from the iPad 1, the screen presents no problems for me. And I also have a 4S so I've seen a retina screen.

I bought the smart cover and I really like it but have the same concern about covering the back but it's so pretty I didn't want to cover it up either....

But I found this Poetic ThinShell Back Smart Cover Partner Case for iPad Mini Clear and it should arrive on Monday. Will post back in the iPad Mini Case Thread once I receive but it's so cheap, how can you not at least try it. lol.

Last I looked it was 50/50 who returned an iPad3 favoring a Mini on that poll thread and not 3 versus 3. :D

It has NOTHING to do with which is better!!

Love my iPhone 4S, love my iPad 3. Loved the Mini form factor, hated the display, returned it after 1 day. Bought a Kindle Fire HD 7 and it fits my needs perfectly! Happy camper now :)

Enjoy your mini...I don't need go back searching polls from people who may or may not of actually had both products. I had both, have used both and know that for me the mini is inferior. Of course that is why it's cheaper also.... Believe me, when it becomes on par with the larger device, I will buy another! I am not however gonna talk it up like its so great when its not.....

No, it isn't (that simple).

Screen resolution and processor speed are two of several characteristics of a tablet that determines its usefulness and worth. And these, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

I think a heavier tablet is inferior to a lighter one.

And since the Mini can run everything an iPad 3/4 can, it gets less simple by the second.

If it makes people feel better about their decision to refer to the Mini as an inferior product, so be it. But it isn't. It isn't superior either. It's different, yet it can do the same things. That's the beauty of it.

So why talk like its so terrible when its not.

I am not talking like it is terrible. This is a thread asking for impressions and I gave mine. After owning both devices that is my impression... There is no need to get defensive, it is my opinion after owning BOTH.

in my opinion viewing experience is a main concern with a tablet.. Enjoy whatever it is you use, but this thread asked for impressions and I gave mine...

It is a horrible surfing device. For ebooks it is ok, but letters are always blurry and jagged.

Had it for only a few hours but first impressions:
- size is perfect for carrying around all the time. The iPad does feel too big for carrying after using this thing for as much as an hour. My retina iPad 4 is either getting returned or relegated to heavy processor tasks like video processing and retina display tasks like photo editing, comic book reading, etc.
- it's very speedy for basic functions. No lag time. I haven't tried the more demanding tasks and programs yet.
- display: eeeehhhhhhh. I can very easily see people who are used to retina being salty. This things not perfect, and really the display is the only reason I've found so far to say that.
- I'm already "all-in" on the apple ecosystem so having everything in my life sync'd up and being able to carry this thing around is a huge plus. I would never carry around the iPad 4 all the time due to device cost/safety/size/feeling stupid whipping it out In a coffee shop. Despite being still kinda costly, this thing seems ok for all of that.
- iOS flexibility overall for entertainment: with this I can have my kindle/nook/amazon video and music apps and not have to make a decision- if a movies cheaper on amazon or a books cheaper on the nook I can actually shop and not be dismayed by being stuck to one brand like I would the nook HD or kindle fire HD

All in all I like it. I'm an apple dork though so take this for what it's worth.

To me the iPad mini is nothing more than a huge iPod 4 gen from the value standpoint

the screen sucks and is a bad experience browsing the web with the broken text the contrast is poor and the colors are mediocre-ordinary

I love the design size and built quality but without a good screen no thanks

PD: not trying to offend this is just my point of view my son still getting one for christmas :D

I disagree. I think the ipad mini screen is tops. No it's not retina, but I've watched movies on it, read books on it, and it's very very useable.

I got a tpu back cover for the mini on eBay for $5 with free shipping. It fits nice and snug. And with a decent screen protector on the front I'm good to go.

I've never owned my own iPad but my wife has a 3. Apart from rarely managing to get it out of her hands, I found it simply too heavy to read with in bed. I checked out the mini in store and loved it - because it ticks my need boxes. I was very aware of issues folks here raise (display/speed) but found neither wanting - the size and weight just perfect for me. No stock were available for sale, so I placed an order online, and just now turned my iPhone airport mode off on awakening and received my "shipping" email from Apple. I'm very excited about it's imminent arrival.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. Always!

You just happen not to prefer, on balance, the characteristics of the iPad mini for your purposes. Great, so why not just say so?!

Not everything in life is simple. Not every aspect of a piece of tech gear will figure in someone's overall assessment of that gear.

So get over it with the invalid comparisons of mini and larger iPad. Both have attractive features. Neither is a dud. Both are finding acceptance in the marketplace, in case you have not heard that yet.

Have a great weekend.

I'm surfing the web and typing on my brand new, picked-up-3-hours-ago Verizon LTE 16GB black mini. I had an iPad3 that I was able to sell a couple weeks ago and have been using a Nexus 7 in the interim. Compared to the iPad 3, no, the screen isn't as nice/sharp--but it is totally acceptable to me for reading (Kindle & iBooks) Internet surfing and a couple basic games and YouTube. Compared to the Nexus 7, this mini just kills it! The screen is technically less dpi, but this mini looks so much nicer and it is a lot more touch responsive.

Anyway, I am not at all sorry I traded the bigger heavier iPad 3 for the mini.

My two cents

Tried out the mini and wasn't impressed. I love my 3 and will stick with it. Just feels much more premium then the mini.

Seems I can get it in the UK via Amazon. Currently i'm using an iPad sock I bought on Ebay for around £4 -

I'm in the exact same boat. I've been waiting for months and wanted to love it, but just didn't. I am probably going to buy the next version. I will buy one for my daughter for Christmas though.

My impressions are it's OK. I got to play with one at Best Buy. The screen was a non issue as I still use an iPad 2 and the screen doesn't bother me. I already own two iPad's and I just wasn't excited by the product.

All these "iPad mini display is terrible" sentiment made me feel very sorry for my iPad 2 which has even worse pixel density. I pat it before I go to sleep, telling it "it's ok, you're still usable"

I have an iPad 2 as well, nothing wrong with it. Which is why the screen on the Mini looked good to me. I just prefer the full size iPad. :)

Better than the 2

Yeah the size was nice but I like the full size iPad better and I have a few smaller size tablets. It's definitely a nice product if you want a smaller size iPad.

The iPad mini is better than the two. Better speakers, more ppi, and the size makes it more practical for reading and gaming. I had an iPad 2. Got it the day it came out. The mini is what the iPad 2 should have been. The recent release should have been adding retina.

So long as you're talking to your iPad because that last bit does not sound right at all.
