I'm looking for external speakers to be used with a Mac Mini and a laptop PC on the same (small) desk. I assume most speakers only come with one minijack input, so I'll probably have to make a small switchbox or look around eBay for one.

We have two Dell U2415 monitors connected to both computers and there's a "soundbar" from Dell which would solve the space-saving issue, but according to customer reviews online the audio quality isn't the best (then again I don't know what they're comparing to and expecting).

I would get a set of Logitech G560, or Z337. They are (relatively) wireless, which could help with the switching between both computers.
Although it means a little more wiring I prefer wired speakers.
The Dell soundbar that attaches underneath the monitor does, as far as I know (there are several models, I'm not quite sure which one goes with the U2415 monitor), take its power from the monitor itself, so that means ditching the additional power adapter, and again if I'm not mistaken, also takes its audio from within the monitor provided one of the cables from the computer supplies audio (I think the Mini DisplayPort connector sends audio along its wires). That would make for a very neat setup (only needing a cable from the PC, and a switch between the two).
But again, I don't know much about the sound quality of those soundbars -if it's an improvement over the built-in speaker of the Mac Mini or not.

Creative Pebble 2.0 - $20 on Amazon. They're incredibly affordable, they're not too terrible sounding, and lastly, they're not too ugly. I've had them for roughly a year and I have zero complaints. I've gathered that the internet (especially around Apple / Mac setup subreddits) that people like to overhype and these little speakers out of proportion. For basic listening, these are a fantastic option if you keep your expectations in check! They're $20.
